Thirty miles south of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe lies one of the finest examples of the beauty of the natural world - the Matopos Hills. This is a vast area of huge 'whaleback' dwalas interspersed with the tumbling confusion of broken granite kopjes. Here the leopard still hunts, the rhino still wander and black eagles soar, hunting their favourite food - the little dassie or rock rabbit. And here also man has made his home since prehistoric times, leaving his traces in caves adorned by his ancient art. And perhaps, If you are very lucky (as we were) you might even find a prehistoric human skull in some long forgotten corner of a cave. We left it where it was. The ancestors should never be disturbed.

If you wish to discover more about the Matopos, you can do no better than visit this superb site:............
